Edible lace is that one cake decorating tool that is classic and timeless. To be honest it is plain gorgeous. It is mostly used on wedding and celebration cakes but can be used with desserts. Lately, I have been looking for ways to use my cake tools on hand. This is so hard because of all the silicone mats etc that are on the market. In this tutorial learn how to make easy flexible edible lace.
Ok, but I admit I am borderline obsessed with edible lace and I have another tutorial using a different lace material. However, instead of using Claire Bowman’s cake lace mixture, I am using Flex Frost Edible Icing (fabric) sheets. Frosting sheets can be ordered in just about any color. I like it because, in just four easy steps, you have flexible edible lace.
The sheer easiness of the frosting sheets is one of the reasons I chose it. I tried it and loved it.

Here are the materials you are going to need:
Traditionally edible lace is used on cakes, cookies, or other desserts. However, I used it on a sugar shoe, because I wanted a delicate design that neither fondant nor gum paste would give me. After removing it from the mold, I measured it on the shoe, cut along the lines, and added using just a bit of water. I used a brush to add water to the lace and the sugar shoe.
Edible lace can be added to buttercream cakes as well as fondant cakes. If the mold is not large enough to go around the cake, use a touch of water to join the pieces together.
That’s it easy flexible edible lace/fabric in no time. If you like this tutorial don’t forget to share and pin for later. Until next time happy caking.
