Daniel Tiger Neighborhood Trolley Cake

Daniel Tiger Neighborhood Trolley Cake

I was asked a few weeks ago to make a Daniel Tiger Neighborhood Trolley Cake.  A very special boy turned one and he is a big fan of the show Daniel Tiger Neighborhood.  Therefore, his mother asked me to make a small cake that is shaped like Daniel Tiger’s trolley with Daniel Tiger somewhere on the cake.  She asked for a marble cake with chocolate frosting.

I was somewhat familiar with Daniel Tiger Neighborhood because my little man sometimes watches it.  Daniel Tiger Neighborhood is a show for preschoolers that is the neighborhood of make belief from Mr. Rogers neighborhood.  During the next couple of days when my son was watching the show I paid a little more attention to see the trolley.  I still have the theme song stuck in my head.

My process for this cake is very similar to all my cakes.  First, I get the blueprints, which become my templates for the trolley.  In this case, I had to scale my templates down to the serving size that I needed.  From the blueprint, I noticed that the trolley has four (4) columns, two in the front and two in the back.  The front of the trolley is round and looks very similar to the back except for a small button in the front.  The trolley also had small window cutouts.  The trolley also had a sign at the top and wheels on the bottom.  I had the information I needed to begin creating the cake.

I made two small square cake for the middle and a small round cake that I cut in half for the front and the back.  In addition, I made the the columns and the top of the trolley because they needed to dry.   I cut out the windows and added the yellow detail and let it firm up, then added it to the cake.   I made a cut out of Daniel Tiger and hand painted him, oops the whiskers disappeared.

Then it was time to put it all together.

The final version..
