Ingredients

Chocolate Cupcake

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 3/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp espresso powder Instant
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 6 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup hot water

Nutella Buttercream Frosting

  • 1/2 cup Butter (Room temperature) 1 stick butter
  • 3/4 cup Nutella
  • 2 cups Powdered Sugar sifted
  • 2-3 tbsp Heavy Cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 pinch Salt

Instructions

Cupcake

  • Preheat the oven to 350F.  Add the cupcake liners to a muffin pan.
  • Mix the dry ingredients together (all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, sugar, espresso powder, salt, baking soda and baking powder) together in a mixing bowl.
  • Mix the wet ingredients together (buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla) together. 
  • Combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients and add the hot water last.  The batter will be liquid.  Add two scoops of batter to each cupcake liner or about halfway.

Nutella Buttercream

  • Beat the butter until pale color
  • Add the Nutella and mix until combined.
  • Then add the powdered sugar one cup at a time.  Add a tablespoon at a time of heavy cream until the buttercream is smooth.
